The kids and I have gotten the pineapple top started in water. We followed online directions of trimming back till you seen small dots. Those are the rooting spots.
We then took a 1 liter pop bottle and cut the top off and stuck it down in there and added some water. You don't need much just enough to cover the bottom.
My broilers are 2 weeks old now and growing fast. I moved them to a larger home today and they are happy they have more room. I need to weigh them to see how much they have gained since i got them.

Here is our 2 nannies with there babies! The one set of babies is 1 month old now.

The fish are doing great since adding the new pump. The other pump that electrocuted the fish was also brand new but i guess was defective. With the new pump and the awesome timer that we installed on it the pump comes on every 4 hrs and runs for 2 hrs.

To end the day here is what the other half brought me home today after stopping at the feed store to get me some more chick starter! 20 Barred rock chicks!! He was kinda worried that i wouldn't be happy about them but i told him i would always take care of any chicks he wanted to bring home. I told him i always take care of the ole rooster (meaning him..lol) and he come back calling me an ole hen. I guess we are both just a set of old chickens!

  1. LOL! I have a pineapple top and celery to start too! And a little trip to the feed store to check on prices last week resulted in one RIR and 3 silver lace wyandotte chicks, plus a broiler roo-let with a bum leg we had to take home to make comfortable for his 10 weeks on earth.

  2. I wanted to get some barred rocks from the feed store last year but all had the large spots on their heads and I didn't want roosters. Here's hoping you have a bunch of hens and just a few roosters. 20 hens is a lot of eggs though. I am trying to keep the number of layers I have down this year so that I don't have to buy so much feed.

    1. I never buy from TSC or anything i always buy from the feedstore that only buys pullets. I do know that they send a few roosters but i have been lucky and never gotten any. This will make 40 chicks that are about a month behind each other plus the 50-60 hens that I already have..lol

    2. becky...the white spot on the heads of barred rock chicks just shows that they are 'barred rock'. When you have a hatch of several different breed of chicks...you always know which ones are barred rock by that spot. I wish there was a way to tell if they are hens or roosters other than turning them over and sexing them. :-/

  3. The other half just shows up with chicks for you? What a man!!!!!

The goats are adorable, can't wait until we get ours.

I hope your pineapple turns out. The kids and I tried that and couldn't get it to do anything. But I think you have better directions than we did... :)
